EU awards International Criminal Court top human rights prize

The International Criminal Court received the EU's Sakharov Prize amid US sanctions, highlighting support for international law. EU leaders emphasized the court's vital role in justice, while the ICC acknowledged the significance of the award during challenging times. The US sanctions aim to undermine the court's operations, particularly after an arrest warrant was issued for Israeli PM Netanyahu. The Sakharov Prize, awarded annually since 1988, recognizes individuals or organizations fighting for human rights. This year, the ICC was one of three finalists, alongside Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu and Iranian activists Taraneh and Romina Rahimi.
