EU-Canada 'love story' needs more than warm words, senior MEP warns
Tobias Cremer, the European Parliament's rapporteur on Canada, emphasized the need for a robust institutional framework for the proposed 'associate membership' between the EU and Canada. He stated that this partnership should extend beyond trade, especially as geopolitical tensions increase. Cremer highlighted the importance of concrete commitments and suggested that Canada could participate as an observer in the EU Council. He also advocated for a formal parliamentary partnership assembly similar to the EU-UK model. Additionally, he called for enhanced cooperation with other nations like Australia and South Korea, focusing on collective security and shared interests.
