EU frees up over 20 billion euros to potentially help Ukraine's defense

On October 29, EU countries were invited to propose defense projects worth 20 billion euros, with a focus on supporting Ukraine. The funding is part of the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument, which includes 150 billion euros in loans for defense enhancements. Despite previous underutilization of funds, 19 countries submitted proposals. The European Commission encourages joint defense procurement with Ukraine, addressing urgent needs like air defense and drones. Cooperation has increased, with plans for joint production even from less pro-Ukraine nations. The EU-Ukraine drone alliance aims to deepen collaboration, and defense manufacturers are urged to support Ukraine financially.
