EU leaders to press Burnham to pay more towards Ukraine’s defence
EU leaders are urging the UK, Canada, and Japan to increase their financial support for Ukraine amid a projected €70bn funding gap in 2027. Ursula von der Leyen will address Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and UK Prime Minister during upcoming summits to discuss contributions. The UK has committed £25bn, but its support relative to GDP is lower than that of France and Germany. The EU is also exploring aid from other countries like Switzerland and Australia. Additionally, the EU-UK summit will address several agreements, including a youth mobility scheme and emissions trading, while discussions on university tuition fees remain contentious.
