EU to charge two-euro handling fee on packages from outside bloc
Starting November 1, the EU will implement a two-euro handling fee on packages from outside the bloc to manage the influx from China. This fee is in addition to a three-euro duty on small parcels imposed in July. The handling fee applies to each item in a package sent directly to consumers, regardless of the package's total value. Online marketplaces and sellers will bear this cost, potentially passing it on to consumers. The EU aims to alleviate pressure on customs authorities, as nearly six billion small packages entered the EU last year, with 93% from China. The handling fee is permanent, while the three-euro duty is temporary until July 2028, after which standard tariffs will apply.
