Europe must prepare for a 3 ºC warming, warns European commissioner
The European Commissioner for Climate Action, Wopke Hoekstra, warns that Europe must prepare for a 3°C temperature rise by 2100, leading to more extreme weather events. In an interview, he emphasized that even with efforts to reduce emissions, extreme summers like last year’s cannot be avoided. The summer's extreme weather caused over €100 billion in damages. The European Commission is set to implement new rules requiring member states to designate authorities responsible for climate disaster prevention. While no direct financial support for families is planned, the European Investment Bank aims to provide €30 billion by 2030. Currently, only about 25% of assets at risk from climate events in Europe are insured.
