Europe pays billions for diseases. It's time to invest in health
Europe faces challenges in effectively utilizing advancements in cardiometabolic disease prevention and treatment. Delayed diagnoses and fragmented care hinder patient access to new therapies, impacting both health outcomes and economic productivity. The recent "State of Health – The Milan Dialogue" highlighted the need for improved early detection, coordinated care, and standardized treatment evaluation across EU member states. Cardiovascular diseases alone cost the EU over €282 billion annually, emphasizing the importance of viewing health as an investment rather than merely an expense. Participants called for better funding for healthcare pathways and accountability in implementing solutions to enhance patient outcomes and economic competitiveness.
