European Commission to investigate whether Booking.com is doing enough against fraud

The European Commission has launched an investigation into Booking.com for potentially violating the Digital Services Act by not adequately addressing fraud risks. Complaints from consumers indicate issues with fraudulent hotel bookings and phishing attempts. Testaankoop, a consumer organization, reports frequent complaints about non-existent hotels and phishing scams targeting customers. The investigation will assess whether Booking.com has properly evaluated and mitigated these risks and if it has violated transparency rules regarding paid listings. This is not the first investigation into compliance with the Digital Services Act, as other platforms have faced scrutiny as well.
