European border control Frontex must become a central deportation agency
The European Commission plans to enhance Frontex as the central EU agency for return and deportation, establishing a coordination center in Warsaw. This agency will oversee the expulsion of undocumented migrants and conduct return operations outside the EU. Concerns arise from human rights organizations regarding potential misuse of return hubs, which may become detention centers for migrants awaiting deportation. The Commission aims to improve crisis response at external borders with a rapid intervention force and a reserve of 17,000 agents. Frontex has faced criticism for human rights violations, including pushbacks of migrants without asylum procedures.
