Europeans should have emergency kits for the 72 hours after emergencies

The European Commission has recommended that member states encourage citizens to prepare emergency kits for self-sufficiency during the first 72 hours after a disaster. This guidance was issued during the European Civil Protection Forum in Brussels, emphasizing that national response systems are often under significant pressure in the immediate aftermath of a crisis. The kits should include non-perishable food, water, medications, first aid supplies, and battery-operated radios. Additionally, the Commission advocates for integrating climate risk preparedness into educational curricula and ensuring inclusivity for people with disabilities in planning. A proposed European Preparedness Day on October 23 aims to promote active citizen participation in emergency readiness.
