Former councilor of Penafiel judged for football tickets
A Criminal Instruction Court in Penafiel has decided to bring an ex-councilor to trial for alleged favoritism towards a commercial company from 2014 to 2020, in exchange for 18 football match tickets. The accused reportedly believed that the company could assist in promoting his campaign for the local elections scheduled for September 26, 2021. The court found sufficient evidence that he violated legal advertising licensing regulations by approving requests without necessary consultations. Additionally, he received tickets knowing they were given due to his decision-making role. The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the forfeiture of €4,788, equivalent to the value of the tickets, as part of the penalties for his criminal activities.
