Dermatological expedition tracks 1,550 people with albinism and operates on 400 in Mozambique
An international dermatological expedition in Mozambique screened 1,550 individuals with albinism and performed 400 surgeries across six provinces. The initiative, led by ISDIN, aimed to provide comprehensive care, including skin screenings, surgical interventions, and the distribution of 180,000 sunscreen units. Dermatologists from various countries participated, focusing on raising awareness about skin cancer prevention among people with albinism, who are particularly vulnerable to UV radiation. Despite challenges such as limited access to healthcare and sunscreen products, progress has been noted in Mozambique's medical care for individuals with albinism. A memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health is being prepared to enhance cooperation in prevention and treatment efforts.
