Experimental vaccine significantly reduces the risk of melanoma recurrence

Merck and Moderna have announced promising results from a Phase 3 study of their personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, which significantly reduces melanoma recurrence. The vaccine, combined with Keytruda, showed a 42% lower risk of melanoma return compared to Keytruda alone. The study involved 1,137 patients with high-risk melanoma, and the treatment had manageable side effects similar to Keytruda. Despite initial stock declines, the companies aim for expedited approval due to the encouraging results, although some findings were less optimistic than expected.
