Lack of structural measures weakens the Tax Authority

The Workers' Union of Taxes (STI) criticized the absence of significant fiscal measures in the 2027 State Budget, which they believe undermines the Tax Authority's ability to combat tax fraud and evasion. The union has proposed various measures to enhance tax enforcement but claims the government has shown no interest in collaborating with tax inspectors. They emphasize the need for the state to have adequate resources to address public debt crises and geopolitical instability. Additionally, the STI warns that the lack of structural fiscal measures has weakened the authority of the Tax Authority, leading to diminished respect for tax inspectors' work. They also highlight ongoing issues such as the unresolved status of tax inspectors as criminal police officers.
