Lack of teachers: government wants graduates to teach
The government plans to allow holders of a Basic Education degree to teach in the first cycle before completing their master's or professional training. This proposal, presented by Education Minister Fernando Alexandre, aims to address the shortage of teachers, particularly in Lisbon. While unions expressed concerns, they did not oppose the measure, viewing it as a necessary compromise. The minister assured that this change is temporary and that pedagogical training will be required for these teachers. The ministry is also revising training requirements for other educational levels to allow professionals from different fields to teach subjects like Mathematics.
