Lisbon Academic Federation criticizes IHRU president

The Academic Federation of Lisbon (FAL) criticized comments made by IHRU president Benjamim Pereira regarding housing protests. Pereira suggested that current society may not be willing to make the sacrifices of previous generations, referencing his grandparents' emigration for housing. FAL deemed these remarks "deeply unfortunate" and rejected the normalization of sacrifices for youth housing access. They emphasized the need for effective housing conditions for young people, questioning why many struggle to secure affordable housing despite their efforts. FAL expressed concern that Pereira's statements shift the burden of the housing crisis onto the youth. Protests against the housing crisis began in Porto and spread to Lisbon, coinciding with the parliamentary discussion of a new rental law.
