The 4.7 billion euro EU refund, which Viktor Orbán blocked for years, has been released
The Council's announcement details the approval of eight resolutions allowing for partial reimbursement of 4.7 billion euros in military support already provided. An additional 230 million euros will fund the EU military training mission for Ukraine. These decisions implement a political agreement reached on September 25, mobilizing a total of 6.6 billion euros, with one billion earmarked for new military equipment. The total EU support for Ukraine through the European Peace Facility now amounts to 10.8 billion euros. The reimbursement is crucial for countries that supplied weapons from their own military stocks. Hungary's veto previously hindered the reimbursement mechanism, causing tensions among member states. The deadlock ended in June 2026 when the new Hungarian government lifted the veto, allowing for the mobilization of funds.
