The central bank may send a supervisory commissioner to lead Quartz involved in the Matolcsy scandal
The investigation into the MNB case, often referred to as Hungary's largest bank robbery, has taken an unexpected turn. Instead of smaller players cooperating with authorities, former MNB president György Matolcsy was arrested first after a year and a half of inactivity. The case revolves around the establishment of Pallas Athéné foundations, where 266 billion HUF was allocated, raising questions about the legality of these transactions. Matolcsy's son, Ádám, allegedly profited from this money through a complex network of companies and funds. While Matolcsy and others have been detained, key figures like Ádám and former Optima CEO György Stofa remain at large, with international warrants issued for their arrest. Notably absent from the suspects are Matolcsy's well-known associates linked to the MNB case.
