Funding for fire departments will increase by more than 5%

The funding for firefighters' corporations will increase by over 5% next year, as announced by Minister Luís Neves. The proposed state budget for 2027 allocates approximately 37 million euros to humanitarian firefighter associations, maintaining the same amount as this year. Neves stated that this funding will see a percentage increase equal to or greater than last year's. This adjustment follows criticism from the Portuguese Firefighters League regarding the sustainability of funding. This year, volunteer firefighters received around 37 million euros, which is 2.2 million euros more than in 2025. Neves made these remarks during the presentation of the 2023 Rural Fire Combat Special Device report.
