Funding of public media sharply divided government and opposition voters
The proposed funding changes for Czech Television and Czech Radio have polarized opinions among government and opposition supporters. A recent survey shows that 75% of voters from government parties support budget cuts after the abolition of fees, while 71% of opposition supporters oppose these cuts. The survey, conducted shortly after a heated parliamentary session, indicates a significant divide on media reform issues. While government voters see the fee topic as important, they do not consider it a priority. In contrast, opposition voters view the reform as a threat to media independence and democracy. The government plans to reduce funding by approximately 1.4 billion crowns annually, but alternative funding models are also being discussed.
