First Asian hornet nest in Poland eliminated but experts warn more to appear next year

Poland has eliminated its first nest of Asian hornets, an invasive species threatening honeybees. Scientists expect more nests to be discovered next year due to the hornets' reproductive habits. The nest, found near Kraków, contained around 1,000 workers and several queens. Asian hornets pose a significant risk to beekeeping, as they prey on honeybees and disrupt their activity. The species has spread across Europe since its arrival in France in 2004, and its invasive nature is highlighted by the high number of young queens produced. The discovery of the nest was unexpected, as the nearest known population was in the Czech Republic, suggesting potential for further spread.
