First known human case of Shamonda virus confirmed in France
France has confirmed its first human case of the Shamonda virus, previously only seen in animals, in a patient who died in early October. The individual had severe immunocompromised conditions due to ongoing treatment for a serious illness, increasing their risk of infections. Authorities noted that brain complications observed in the patient were likely associated with the Shamonda virus infection.
