Tax Authority, heading towards a new crackdown on tax credits and open-and-close companies

The Italian government is considering stricter measures on tax credits and inactive companies as part of its budget plan. Proposed changes include lowering the threshold for blocking tax credit compensations from €50,000 to €30,000 for unpaid debts. This aims to combat tax evasion and ensure compliance among taxpayers. Additionally, there is a proposal to restrict the use of tax credits acquired by inactive VAT numbers, targeting fraudulent schemes that exploit tax credits. These measures are part of a broader effort to enhance tax administration and increase revenue, addressing issues related to companies that operate briefly to evade taxes.
