Fnac Darty fined 7 million euros by the CNIL for non-compliance with personal data legislation

Two companies from the Fnac Darty group were fined a total of 7 million euros for violating cookie legislation, as announced by the CNIL. They used trackers on the Fnac mobile app without user consent, collecting browsing history for product recommendations. The holding company received a 6 million euro fine, while its subsidiary, Fnac Direct, was fined 1 million euros. The CNIL justified the fines due to the companies' disregard for user consent and the app's wide usage. Both fines come with a compliance order within one month and a penalty of 10,000 euros per day for delays. The CNIL emphasizes its strict enforcement of cookie regulations, having previously fined major companies like Google and Shein for similar violations.
