Former deputy defense minister appointed to lead Ukraine's state-run defense giant
Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk has been appointed to lead Ukroboronprom, Ukraine's largest defense company, following an open competition. His military background and management experience are expected to enhance production and address military needs. Havryliuk has held various positions in the military, including deputy defense minister, and has returned to service during the ongoing conflict with Russia. His appointment comes after the resignation of Herman Smetanin amid a controversy related to an explosion at an ammunition depot. Ukroboronprom is a major player in Ukraine's defense sector, comprising around 100 enterprises.
