Frigate ‘Trishul’ was in Lisbon to showcase the more modern face of the Indian Navy
The INS Trishul, an Indian guided missile frigate, visited Lisbon to showcase the modern capabilities of the Indian Navy. Commissioned in 2003, it is equipped for various maritime operations, including anti-surface, anti-air, and anti-submarine warfare. The ship underwent significant modernization, incorporating advanced indigenous systems like the BrahMos missile and Lynx U2 radar. Named after the trident of the Hindu deity Shiva, the Trishul has historical significance and has recently participated in maritime security operations. Its visit to Portugal highlights strengthening defense relations between India and Portugal, as noted by Ambassador Puneet R. Kundal. The Indian Navy aims to expand its fleet significantly by 2035.
