France reports first case of Shamonda virus in humans
The first human case of the Shamonda virus was reported in France, with no general health risk identified. The patient, a 60-year-old man with a compromised immune system, was hospitalized in Lyon. Complications observed before his death are likely linked to the virus. Despite its long presence in Africa and Asia, this is the first documented human case. The virus has been detected in livestock across several European countries. In Portugal, veterinary authorities confirmed the virus's presence, which primarily spreads through insect bites and affects cattle, sheep, and goats.
