France bans demonstrations, President Macron convenes a security council
French President Emmanuel Macron convened a security council meeting to address the riots from October 17. Local authorities have banned demonstrations in Paris, Lyon, and Lille on Thursday. The meeting aims to discuss intelligence gathering and security measures for the upcoming weeks, as well as shortcomings that led to recent unrest. The police have prohibited a student-organized protest due to previous violence. Additional bans on demonstrations are in place for various cities following violent incidents, including significant property damage and numerous arrests. Macron stated that unacceptable actions occurred during the protests and emphasized the need for preventive measures without declaring a state of emergency.
