Franco-British simulation of a nuclear attack. The first such exercises in history

French and British air forces conducted their first joint nuclear attack simulation, named "Rummy," over the Mediterranean Sea. The exercise involved British Typhoon fighters, French Rafale aircraft, and A330 MRTT tankers. Defense ministers emphasized that the drills aimed to enhance coordination between the two Western European nuclear powers without carrying actual nuclear payloads. This milestone in Franco-British cooperation was outlined in the Northwood declaration signed in July 2025. Both nations maintain independent nuclear forces, but the exercises are seen as a strengthening of European deterrence and security.
