Fuel fraud. UTAO accuses lack of substantiation
The Technical Unit for Budgetary Support (UTAO) raises concerns about the 2027 State Budget projections, particularly regarding private investment recovery and employment growth estimates. UTAO highlights discrepancies between government forecasts and those of other institutions, noting a projected employment growth of 1.4% and economic growth of 2.1%, both higher than average estimates. The reliance on surplus balances from the Social Security system poses structural vulnerabilities, especially in light of potential economic slowdowns. UTAO also questions the feasibility of a projected €300 million revenue increase from combating fuel fraud, citing insufficient details for evaluation. Overall, UTAO suggests that the proposed budget may be slightly restrictive amid ongoing economic activity, reflecting a minimal increase in the structural primary balance.
