Women's magazine "Emma" to be discontinued after 50 years
The feminist magazine "Emma," founded by Alice Schwarzer, will cease publication after 50 years. The last issue will be released on December 8, 2026. Schwarzer announced the decision, citing challenges in continuing the magazine's universal feminist perspective. Despite attempts to pass leadership to younger editors, Schwarzer remained at the helm due to difficulties in finding suitable successors. The magazine faced criticism for its stance on trans issues and its position on the Ukraine war, leading to a decline in subscriptions. Schwarzer emphasized that the closure is not due to financial reasons but a belief that it is time to end this chapter. The "Emma" archive will be preserved at the German Literature Archive in Marbach.
