Freezers of UK meat suppliers heat up after cyber-attacks in Europe
UK meat suppliers faced cyber-attacks that raised supermarket freezer temperatures across Europe, although the national impact was minimal. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is collaborating with affected companies to address vulnerabilities. Retailers in several European countries reported issues with refrigeration systems, with some temperatures soaring dangerously high. Experts noted that the attacks targeted dummy fridge controls, resembling tactics linked to Russian hackers. The British Association of Independent Meat Suppliers indicated that some members were affected but no meat was lost. Cybersecurity researchers recorded numerous attempted attacks on dummy controls, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities in connected devices.
