Fresh wave of fridge cyberattacks hits European supermarkets

A series of cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems in supermarkets across Belgium, Luxembourg, and Sweden has caused significant disruptions. Stores reported sudden temperature increases in fridges and freezers, with some reaching as high as 50°C, leading to food spoilage and operational issues. Ahold Delhaize and Colruyt confirmed incidents in Belgium, while Swedish grocers ICA and Coop also experienced similar problems. The attacks follow a previous incident in France, where hackers gained control of cooling units in numerous supermarkets. Authorities are investigating the incidents, but no group has claimed responsibility yet. Experts highlight the vulnerability of modern operational technology to cyber threats.
