Frontex soll soziale Medien auf Hinweise zu illegaler Migration überwachen

The European Commission has proposed a comprehensive reform of Frontex to enhance its powers and capabilities in combating irregular migration. The agency will take on a larger role in the return of undocumented individuals and will be able to conduct return operations outside the EU. Additionally, Frontex will gain new competencies for monitoring social media. This initiative follows incidents like the rapid crossing of thousands of migrants into Spain's Ceuta, highlighting the influence of social networks on irregular migration. A new center will be established to analyze publicly available social media content to identify developments relevant to EU border protection and to support measures against illegal online content linked to border security risks.
