The church fund divides the coalition. "This will not pass in the Sejm"
The proposal by the Left to abolish the Church Fund is unlikely to pass in the Polish Parliament, according to Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. He stated that the Polish People's Party (PSL) will not support this initiative, emphasizing that citizens should decide through tax deductions whether to allocate part of their taxes to their religious institutions. Kosiniak-Kamysz criticized the Left's proposal as politically motivated and uncoordinated. He reiterated PSL's commitment to the separation of church and state while defending the Church Fund as a necessary compensation for religious communities. The Left argues for the fund's abolition, proposing that churches should self-finance and share social insurance costs with clergy. The fund, established in 1950, currently supports all legally operating religious organizations in Poland, with a significant portion of its budget allocated for clergy social insurance.
