Galaxist was captured by Serbian university students

Darko Donevski, a Serbian astrophysicist, named a newly discovered galaxy SL3 in honor of Serbian university students. His research team identified 17 galaxies using the ALMA and James Webb telescopes. The name SL3 refers to the Studentska lista and its number in the recent parliamentary elections, where it won 53% of the votes. Donevski emphasized that the galaxy's light took a long journey to reach us, similar to the students' efforts. The galaxy has a significant molecular gas reservoir for future star formation and was previously undetectable by optical telescopes due to gas and dust. Donevski hopes the name SL3 will gain recognition in scientific publications and conferences.
