Greenhouse gases reached a new record in 2025
The World Meteorological Organization reported record levels of greenhouse gases in 2025, indicating a long-term increase in global temperatures. The average concentration of CO2 reached 426.8 parts per million, 153% above pre-industrial levels. Methane and nitrous oxide also hit new highs, with methane at 1,948 parts per billion and nitrous oxide 126% above 1750 levels. These gases contribute significantly to climate change, with methane accounting for about 16% of warming effects. The last 11 years have been the hottest on record, and this trend is expected to continue, impacting global climate for decades to come.
