Diesel, the excise cut returns: discount until November 7

The Italian government has reintroduced a diesel tax cut of 4.9 cents per liter, effective until November 7. This reduction is funded by 38.7 million euros from the VAT surplus collected in September. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni indicated that part of the VAT surplus, approximately 170 million euros, will be allocated for this purpose, leaving room for future interventions. After the cut ends, the government may consider extending it based on the October VAT surplus data. Additionally, Eni has renewed its price cap for diesel, lowering it to around 2.2 euros per liter, while the gasoline cap remains at 1.99 euros.
