Gas bill keeps rising: European gas price now 100 euros per MWh
Gas prices have surged to €1.89 per m³ due to Middle Eastern conflicts, significantly higher than earlier this month. The ongoing war in Iran has led to a sharp increase in energy costs, with annual contracts now €500 more expensive than in August and over €1,100 compared to last year. Households not using gas for heating are also affected as electricity prices rise due to gas generation. Current gas prices are the highest since the Ukraine war, following a crisis in December 2022 when Russian supplies halted. Dutch gas reserves are currently at 66.4% capacity, down from 73% last year, complicating replenishment efforts amid rising costs.
