No new permanent swimming pool, but a large neighborhood park: Mechelen shows plans for Geerdegemvaart

Mechelen plans to transform the site of the closed Geerdegemvaart swimming pool into a large neighborhood park called Leliepark. The city has proposed a master plan that includes a larger, greener park with a new café and community space. The existing pool was closed due to its poor condition, and there are no plans for renovation or a new permanent pool, which has caused local protests. Instead, a mobile pool will be available for at least 15 years. The city aims to create a welcoming park for all generations, incorporating play areas and possibly a basketball court in the old swimming basin. Community input will continue as plans develop, with a goal to start construction by 2028.
