Gelderland partially locked down for new connections to the power grid: 'Bitter pill'
Several municipalities in Gelderland will halt new electricity grid connections due to capacity issues, as announced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. Sixteen municipalities, including Doetinchem, Lochem, and Zutphen, will face delays in new applications starting next year. Only applications with societal priority, such as schools and hospitals, will be approved. The connection stop will last until at least July 1, 2027, when the situation will be reassessed. The electricity grid in parts of Gelderland is currently overloaded, prompting urgent measures to prevent a complete halt in new connections. National priority rules for electricity connections have been in place since July, leading to increased waiting lists for new connections across the country.
