General Staff: Russia has lost 1,576,600 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022

Since the start of the invasion on February 24, 2022, Russia has reportedly lost over 1.5 million troops in Ukraine, according to Ukraine's General Staff. This figure includes nearly 2,000 casualties in just one day. Additionally, Russia has lost significant military equipment, including over 12,000 tanks and 25,000 armored vehicles. In contrast, Ukraine has not disclosed its own casualty figures, but estimates suggest that Russian losses are considerably higher than those of Ukraine, with ratios around 2.5:1. A report from CSIS estimates Ukrainian casualties between 500,000 and 600,000, with President Zelensky acknowledging at least 55,000 soldiers killed. The ongoing conflict complicates the retrieval of fallen soldiers' bodies for identification.
