General Staff: Russia has lost 1,583,350 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022
Since the start of the invasion on February 24, 2022, Russia has reportedly lost over 1.5 million troops in Ukraine, according to Ukraine's General Staff. Recent figures indicate that 1,510 Russian casualties occurred in just one day. Additionally, Russia has lost significant military equipment, including over 12,000 tanks and 25,000 armored vehicles. While Ukraine's losses remain undisclosed for operational reasons, estimates suggest they are significantly lower than Russia's, with a casualty ratio of approximately 2.5:1. A CSIS report estimates Ukraine's casualties between 500,000 and 600,000, with President Zelensky acknowledging at least 55,000 soldiers killed in action. The ongoing conflict complicates the retrieval of fallen soldiers' bodies for identification.
