Genetically modified dogs are being cloned for the U.S. Army
An American startup, Warhound, aims to create genetically enhanced military, police, and rescue dogs. Founded by Palmer Luckey and Ben Lamm, the company is working on gene editing to clone top-performing working dogs. With over 80% of U.S. military dogs sourced from Europe, the project seeks to address the dwindling supply of suitable service dogs. Warhound plans to reduce disease susceptibility in cloned dogs and enhance traits like smell and speed through genetic modifications. The first cloned puppies are expected by early 2027, and the dogs will be equipped with protective gear from Anduril. The startup collaborates with the American Humane Society.
