Gigantic settlement of the Church. It amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars
The Archdiocese of New York has reached an $800 million settlement with approximately 1,300 victims of clergy abuse, marking the second-largest settlement of its kind in the U.S. Archbishop Ronald Hicks confirmed the agreement via email, stating it will be finalized after both parties sign the documents post-November 6. This settlement concludes a seven-year legal battle and follows similar agreements by other archdioceses, including Los Angeles and San Francisco. The settlement aims to provide healing and accountability for the victims while allowing the archdiocese to refocus on its mission.
