GKI: Households living on less than 300,000 forints a month support the wealth tax the least
A recent GKI survey reveals that 85% of the population supports taxing wealth over one billion HUF, with varying opinions among different income groups. While 79% of households earning under 300,000 HUF support the tax, those earning between 500,000 and one million HUF show higher support at 91%. The proposed tax would affect only 0.2% of the adult population, leading to broad support. Businesses are divided, with 51% expecting no impact, while 18% anticipate negative effects on operations. The tax is set to be self-assessed, with the first payment due by August 31, 2027. Critics argue it may impose disproportionate burdens on smaller companies.
