Glabbeek installs memorial walls with names and photos of war victims: "Do not forget our war past"
Glabbeek has installed memorial walls at six cemeteries to honor war victims, featuring names and photos of those who died in World Wars I and II. The initiative aims to preserve war heritage and archive victims' stories. With 447 old war graves, only 65 remain, and each cemetery now has a memorial wall. A QR code provides information about local soldiers and civilians affected by the wars. The project, led by Mayor Peter Reekmans and Edmond Denruyter, has uncovered new names and stories, emphasizing the need to document these histories before they are lost. An online heritage website allows further exploration of the victims.
