Glória. Fidelidade rejects refusing compensation
Fidelidade, the insurer for Carris, denied refusing to compensate victims of the Glória elevator accident in Lisbon, expressing regret over certain legal expressions that may have caused additional suffering. The insurer contested a €125,000 claim from a victim's family, deeming it excessive based on human life valuation criteria. Fidelidade emphasized its commitment to fair compensation and clarified that its legal arguments should be viewed in context. They have already covered approximately €2.5 million in related expenses and are negotiating settlements with families of the 16 deceased. The company stated that media exposure should not influence compensation amounts, asserting that the accident's publicity should not lead to unjust claims.
