Greece bans the use of social media for those under 15 years old
Greece has become the first EU country to ban social media for those under 15, effective January 1, 2027. Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou emphasized the need to protect children's intellectual development from social media harm. This decision aligns with EU regulations, following the European Commission's recent proposal to restrict social media use for those under 13. Greece's law is stricter, raising the age limit to 15. Social media platforms must verify users' ages digitally using a government-developed app called Kids Wallet, which manages children's data. France nearly implemented a similar law but faced constitutional challenges.
