Greece has banned the use of social media for those under 15 years old

The Greek parliament has approved a regulation banning social media use for children under 15 starting January 1, 2027, making Greece the first EU member state to implement such a restriction. Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou emphasized the necessity of this measure to prevent addiction and protect children's intellectual development. Social media platforms will be required to verify users' ages, aided by a government app called Kids Wallet, which will manage children's data without sharing personal information. Other countries, including France and Australia, are considering similar bans, while the EU is discussing the EU Kids Act to enhance online protection for minors.
